Nashville Christian School’s Early Childhood Learning Center has recognized the need to provide a therapeutic learning environment to non-typically developing preschool children in the community. Non-typical development includes children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, Down’s Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, and several other types of diagnosis. Nashville Christian School’s location uniquely places it in a position to serve families in West Davidson, Cheatham, and Dickson counties. Our program is a full day, five times per week, inclusive program in the preschool which offers a stimulating and conducive learning environment for these beautiful children.
This program recently opened with an inclusive classroom for three and four year olds, which is a blend of non-typically and typically developing children. The classroom’s lead teacher is certified and has her Master’s degree in Early Childhood. We are currently working with various therapists within the community to provide speech, occupational, and physical therapy to these children as needed. We are in the process of establishing relationships with the local universities so that they may provide special education and therapeutic student clinicians to our classroom as additional aids. The inclusive classroom contains specialized equipment which will aid in the physical, mental, and emotional development for all children in the classroom. We believe that typically developing children will gain a greater lifelong understanding of people by participating in this group. Our goal is to tailor daily care which integrates the various therapies non-typical children need with an appropriate curriculum. We anticipate these early intervention efforts will reap huge rewards in terms of future success in school as well as in life.
